Our customer’s #1 requirement drives the COLOMBO design philosophy: “a reliable / operational system”. This translates into maximum system availability during the customer’s business hours. The only real measure a customer uses with respect to the quality of a system and its service is the ‘Restoral Time’: that time delta between when the customer notifies someone the system is down and when it is restored to service.
This requirement drives everything we design at COLOMBO. Using the latest in computer based CAD systems we strive to design systems with not only high MTBF’s (Mean Time Between Failure). As much as is cost effective we design with RASM (Reliability, Accessibility, Serviceability and Maintainability) in mind. We endeavor to design the complex elements and components of systems into FRU’s (Field Replaceable Unit’s). An FRU is much easier and faster to replace in the field than testing isolating and replacing individual system components.
As we prepare to begin rolling out systems that are even more complex, we have also begun to design in self-diagnostics, remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance functions. We expect this design philosophy to produce a remarkably low Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
People and Training –
COLOMBO’s position with respect to our capabilities designing, developing and manufacturing pneumatic tube systems business is born of a coalescing of experience and talent from multiple sources and disciplines. They derive from:
The company’s 30 years of direct business experience in the pneumatic tube system market.
Personnel with talents in the areas of design, prototyping, discrete and process manufacturing, and high volume mass production from the automotive industry.
Personnel with pneumatic tube systems product design and development, prototype and manufacturing backgrounds.
Personnel with computer hardware and software, manufacturing, customer service management and organizational development skills in rapidly growing national and global environments.
This coalescence of people, experience and capabilities afford COLOMBO the opportunity to maximize our advantage in the re-emerging pneumatic tube market.
The combination of the present staff and advisors positions COLOMBO to achieve its strategic objectives.
Logistics –
Additionally, COLOMBO Sales & Engineering enjoys a strategic advantage with its headquarters proximity to Detroit, the heart of the US industrial manufacturing complex. The manufacturing base provides an abundance of trained personnel, supply chains for materials and components and outside services enabling us effectively respond to increases in business volume. An abundance of suppliers and subcontractors reside within a ten-mile radius of COLOMBO facilities.
There is an area cultural requirement to be the best at supplying on-time world-class quality among the manufactures, vendors, and services suppliers in the area. The area prides itself on the ability to ‘retool overnight’.
COLOMBO has a fully functional manufacturing operation for our products as well as a prototype design build capability. |
